ODDSPACE

Opening on February 6, 2010
6-9 February (3 nights)
Time: 12.00am to 10:00am

Will be hosted by Britto in partnership with CFC Media Lab (Canada) and VASL (Karachi).
A virtual meet up between Bangladesh and Canada! through live video streams to interact with each other.
Created by new media artist, Faisal Anwar, Canada, OddSpace is a real-time interactive installation that engages the spaces of human interactions. This project seeks to connect people separated by geography, social and cultural status by using new technologies to help facilitate their exchange. OddSpaces reminds us that while we may be separated by the conventions of our own society and identity, new technologies can be used to work against such barriers and bring to light the social norms that work behind the screens.

For more information on the project and information on partners, please visit www.oddspaces.com

Old Dhaka - 19 venues around 1 mile2, 4 December 2009, 11am - 8pm.

Ethnic Culture & Green Nature (Modhupur Forest)

The project: 1mile²

1mile² asks communities to map their neighbourhood exploring the biodiversity, cultural diversity, and aesthetic diversity (buildings and open spaces) of their local square mile. Working in collaboration with an artist(s) and ecologist, the programme brings together social and environmental sustainability via a creative medium. Communities are linked across the world through an internet platform that shares their findings, ideas, attitudes, creativity and approaches to conservation.1mile² addresses the interrelation between culture (including issues such as faith and gender equality) and the environment within diverse societies, and provides education and learning opportunities through a process shaped by artistic practice. 1mile² has four elements - creativity, community action, environmental engagement, and intercultural dialogue.

Visiting Arts has been organising 1mile² in 10 different venues in 8 Countries during the same timeframe that are New Delhi (India), Karachi (Pakistan), Tehran (Iran), Edinburgh (Scotland), Waltham Forest (UK), Bradford (UK), Johannesburg (South Africa), Smethwick (UK), Shanghai (China) and Dhaka (Bangladesh).
